Thanks as most calendars do not indicate Victory Europe any more. Made me think of Harry Rupelt, my dad's longtime friend. Harry served in the Mighty 8th Air Force first on B-17's, later in B-24's, as a bombadier (with the complex & secret Norton sight) but later as a togglier who dropped when the leaders did. He could have been Yosarian in the famed Catch-22 book as after 25 missions, they kept extending the # of missions before he could go home. IIRC he hit either 33 or 35 before they let him go. Never spoke much like most WWII vets but one time he had a few and told us a few 100% riveting stories of death and destruction and acts of heroism over Germany.
Too bad most today don't celebrate these true heros and what they gave for our way of life today. I raise my glass to them all!
