Does venture size matter ?

I am wondering if you put a 850 holley base plate on a 750 what if any would you gain. I know the 750 has 1-11/16 throttle pates and the 850 has 1-3/4 throttle plates. Are the venture sizes the same? Is it worth while doing? Thanks in advance

If I'm not mistaken, what you are talking about doing there is re-creating a 950 Holley.  Those carbs either have a 750 body and 850 base plate, or an 850 body and 750 base plate.  Pretty sure its the former.  In any case, I think the combination would work well, and give you an extra 50 cfm or so out of the carb.  FYI, a 950 Holley does not deliver 950 cfm, the "950" is just a marketing gimmick.

Why I am asking is because my 750 base is cracked do to to many (stacked) gaskets. I know what a dump thing to do. I have a 850 with a good base plate, Top of carb is bad do to a fire years ago. I have these parts and wondering if it is worth my time in doing this or just bite the bullet and buy a 850. 69 mustang 538 torque and 530 hp with a GV and a 389 gear. Just looking for opinions and thoughts on this. Thanks again

Thanks Jay and I will try the combo. and see how it works. I will have to wait until spring to try it because I am in Wisconsin and it is 8 degrees outside as of now. But I will be ready come spring.

At this point, and considering the size of my bank account and the non-designated money therein, I don't suppose a venture of more than a few hundred dollars, at best, would make any sense at all. Your experience may vary.

A 850 double pumper base plate has some different holes in it that don't match up with the 800 or 750 bodies.  At least on the older stuff.
