We all have slightly different techniques for drivability, however, I would base total on quench distance and chamber design. 36 is probably about right for your setup, I doubt I would go more.
I like a little less initial than most, I'd run it around 14 BTDC. Then with the 3.00 gear and a 4 speed, I'd say all mechanical in by 2800, then add ported vacuum on top of that.
Should be pretty easy combo. Keep in mind though, be sure you know your compression numbers and are not guessing. If you go above 10:1 static it may start getting fussy on fuel
