Pictures from the PRI show
« on: December 11, 2016, 02:40:34 PM »
I went to the PRI show this weekend with the Drag Week gang.  Saw a lot of very cool stuff, but a couple items caught my eye.  First was the Ernie Elliot FE in the Borla booth:

I don't know what the story is on this engine, but it sure looked good.  While at the Borla booth I also asked about their progress with my intake adapters; some of you may recall that I did a special one for them a few years ago, where they were going to convert it to a sidedraft individual runner manifold.  Some of the drawings are posted in the FE intake adapter thread.  Anyway, according to the guy I talked to they keep thinking about releasing it as a product, but so far it is still stuck on the shelf there.  Bummer... :(

Also got a look at the new Comp Cams FE rocker assembly.  They have gone away from buying their parts from Dove, and are doing their own now.  Pictures below:

We had dinner with Barry R on Friday night, and he couldn't understand why Comp would split the stands, like the early FE rocker shaft stands.  Other than that, though, they look like a pretty nice part.

Other than sore feet from walking mile after mile of exhibitor space, and sore arms from lugging around huge bags of product literature picked up from all the booths, we all had a pretty good time at the show.  It's a great place to see what's new and get new ideas for your projects.  If any of you get the opportunity to go to PRI sometime, it is well worth the trip - Jay

Are those stands cast iron or steel?

I don't know, by the texture they look cast, but I didn't ask...

I just found the press release and it does say the stands are steel, which would explain the splits as well. Those should be pretty stout for a boot on type rocker setup.

Might the split base keep it from walking with still just 4 bolts or would it be worse?

Stands are steel (or ductile iron)  I talked to one of my friends that works there about the cut stands and the undercut fasteners they showed in the press release.  Neither feature is really useful in a modern, well machined part.  Other than those the package looks very well designed and includes the integrated stand and spacer design that Erson previously had.  I consider that to be a really nice characteristic.

I wondered if Borla would have that in the works for a Cleveland pattern, since they have it for 351W and others.

On the CC rockers, at least you would think they would get the offsets correct, LOL. They have them assembled backwards, with the offset (adjuster) toward the (center) stand when it should be away. I wonder what diameter the shaft is, maybe smaller like the T&D "street" assembly and/or Erson was smaller than that. With just 4 bolts holding the stands down, I still don't think it would be good for a stout solid roller but certainly looks stronger than just center stands and would be great for a nasty solid flat tappet or hydraulic roller cam. Did they say what spring pressures it was good for?

Ernie Ellitot is Bill Elliot's brother and was his engine builder in Nascar when he drove the Thunderbirds.
Awesome Bill from Dawsonvile's brother.

I took some pictures at PRI also, I'll try to get the FE related ones posted first, maybe some of the others later.

Here's another FE intake setup also from the Borla booth:

Most of the items on display at PRI are existing products, but it's nice to get to see them in person. And it's fun to look around and see if you come across something you didn't know existed. Here's a few pictures of some FE stuff.

Innovators West makes top of the line harmonic dampers, lots of Ford specific dampers, and has some options available. Here is the FE damper with optional flying magnet crank trigger option.

Here are the T&D street FE rocker shaft assemblies:

Here are the ProMaxx FE heads:

A few more pictures from PRI. First Harland Sharp FE rocker shaft sets:

Here is another picture of the Borla SOHC injection intake:

Here is a Aviaid oil system. Aviaid has been making FE oil pans for a long time. The pan pictured on the top of the display is a rear sump with external oil pump. The oil pan attached to the bottom of the display is their front sump road race pan.

And same oil pan showing the inside including the windage tray:

With the right rear sump oil pan, that remote oil pump may be just the ticket for guys with Mustang 11 front suspension/rack & pinion chassis who don`t want to shove the engine way into the firewall, or sitting way up high.
