AUTOLINE C834A Carburetor Replacement

Hey folks,

planning to change my carburetor for more grunt.
quite sure that ive got the 2 Barrel AUTOLINE C834A.

I guess for any serious replacement I will have to change the intake manifold aswell? Which set up would you recommend? Any other changes will be nessesary for carb change?

It's actually an Autolite carb, parts are readily available and the link should help.

That said, do you want a 4-bbl carb....as no replacement 2-bbl carb will improve performance much if at all. And yes, any 4-bbl will require a replacement 4-bbl compatible intake manifold. Note too that merely swapping on a 4-bbl with no other change (maybe a hotter camshaft, maybe a better exhaust, maybe higher c/r pistons) will offer some improvement but not a heck of a lot.

It will be hard to find an 4Barrel intake...

will an 67 mustang intake increase my flow? it actually on ebay germany....

If you have say a 390 FE series engine and that E-Bay ad is also for a FE series engine intake, then yes.

If you want a new intake you could easily order it from Sweden

just another thought ... why not throw a Holley 500 two barrel on it

what do you think about power increase, compare
stock iron manifold with edelbrock 500 2 barrel to alu 4 port manifold with fitting edelbrock 4 barrel?

About 20 hp although when 1st hitting the gas pedal hard it will seem like more than that.

And you save a lot of frontend wheight thats good for feeling
 like you got another 20  hp extra

Ford came out with a book/brochure what ever with
sugested modifications on the FE i think swaping from stock
four barrel to a 735 gave 17 hp so from two barrel to  better intake
and a four barrel will give you more
 There was a 10,5 to one 2V engine with i think 280 hp.
 And the 10.5 to one 4V was 315 hp i think they have the same cam.
 So 35 hp and then if you go bigger carb and say a Edelbrock performer rpm
will give you maby 20 more.....sounds optimistic to me but...... 
And there was also a low comp 2v with 265 hp the hp gains from changing carb
and intake would bee about the same
And dont run the stock 2V aircleaner after the carb swap. I tried that on my Galaxie
And with an open aircleaner you could realy feel the diference

No i don't have any link to it or any ID number
must be 20 years since i saw it . Many on this
forum must know which brochure I'm talking about
its about how to modify Ford engines in stages
and the increase in hp for each stage. Its from
the late sixties

I'm not sure if this is the same book you guys are talking about it, but it's pretty cool reading. It has several stages of modifications for the 390 as well as Ford's other engines.
