Performance Quotient Roller Tip Rockers
« on: September 12, 2016, 06:55:12 PM »
I forgot the details and the fact I had them. I do remember these are warranty replacements and the man I bought them from said to build the valve train under the manufactures specs. I will either use them on nothing larger than a 282S or a truck cam daily driver. What is the max lift, rpm and spring pressure you recomend?
Thanks

Performance Quotient didn't come up in the search feature. Do I have a one off part no one has even heard of?

They are PRW stainless rockers.  I've never used them.

When PRW first came out they used the Performance Quotient name.  Not sure why they changed.

Forgot to mention they have a PRW logo on the box. I'll be the Huckleberry and see how long the hold up long term low lift use.

I have a set of PRW stainless on a truck that are still going after 20k with a Comp HR 270.
But you have a set of aluminums so can't really cross reference.

Mark,
These are bushed, does your stainless use roller bearings?

They are bushed also.
BTW quick thought.
I replaced the adjusters with a set from Manton as the only failure I had read about in my research was adjuster failure.
Makes 'em more expensive though so you have to weigh what your comfy with.

I remember now, that was the original issue. They were coming loose with locktite. He over torqued the lock nuts, (per tech line) and they ended up pulling the threads. Seems if they had designed the lock nuts on the push rod side, splitting up pressure to both sides, they probably could have used less aluminium as well.

I would avoid using locktite on the adjusters, or anything in an engine that may need to be loosened and retightened, without being completely cleaned. I tried using it once on an old set of factory rockers once that had adjusters that wouldn't stay tight. The first time I tried adjusting them again, the loctite broke loose and turned into what felt like little shards of glass. Bearing eaters for sure! I had to remove the entire rocker system, clean all that stuff out of there, then went to Crane locking adjusters.

Like you I see a piece going right through the bypass when oil is cold. He did say something about arguing with the tech line over it. He had a lot of trouble with parts and machine work on that 416 FE. I believe at one point between head swaps he found different deck heights. His first block ended up cracked on passenger oil feed. The good block he bought from me was decked crooked, then something went wrong with the Edelbrock heads. I think he ended up with a 4.080 390 with iron CJ heads and an Edelbrock RPM.
