Even though doing Drag Week with a vehicle like the Mark V obviously isn't like Jay or Joel's efforts, there still seems to be a mile long list of little things you want to get done. Quite a few of my things fall into maintenance stuff that should have been done long ago. The Drag Week deadline is like the old saying..."If it wasn't for the last minute nothing would get done". I have to thank my friend BradFord for all his help again. Tonight he replaced a power steering hose that was leaking. Not a simple thing either since the hose snakes around about half the car. And of course no one had a hose on hand last week, so we were waiting until it finally showed up today. I have to thank the shop he works at, World Auto Repair, for coming up with a hose too. It annoys BradFord when we put his picture in these posts, so of course we have to do it LOL, here he is working away.

One of my racing friends Joe loaned me some 26" Hoosier slicks to use on Drag Week. I had extra Lincoln rims to use so we got those mounted up this week too. Here's a picture of checking the fit. We were setting the car down gradually on the hoist while watching clearance to the frame. We picked the 26" slicks to gain some effective gear ratio, since the Lincoln has 2.50:1 gears in the 9", and as it turns out that was probably the tallest tire I could use ( being as wide as it is ) unless I went to a different wheel with more offset to the outside of the wheel well. The short tires will look a little strange, but the real racers will know why it was done.

Hot Rod sends out an email about a week ahead of the start of Drag Week with registration and event  information along with a multi-page tech form they want filled out, which is mostly so they have detailed info on hand in case they feature your car. They request brand info too on various components which I would guess they pass on to their advertisers in case they want to use a car utilizing the product in their ads. I printed all that up today, you just hope you don't forget to bring it with. Back at it tomorrow.

Sure, with all the room in the engine compartment compared to the Shelby the swap will go quick LOL. making headers from scratch in time might be problematic. And then I'd have to pull the 2.50 gears for sure...I better start making a list.

Unfortunately, I don't have a printer (never need one) and we're not allowed to use the ones at work unless it's approved, so I'm trying to figure out how to get the darn sheets. Might have to bribe somebody.

Doug, I don't have a printer either - I go to the local library. I don't know if that's an option for you?

I think I've got some 4.86 gears I can loan you.

The "2.50" ratio is most likely actually 2.47, Ford just calls is that in some cars. At 7500 RPM in high gear this boat should be movin'...

Got my shift light installation finished up today.

Also finished installing a digital water temp gauge.

I had to drive the Lincoln out to my friends house where I had my van & trailer stored. We swapped the slicks back on so the Lincoln would be ready when arriving at National Trail. Packed up my stuff and ready to hit the road.

I made it through tech & registration today. I'll let the other guys tell their stories if they get a chance. I did get a test pass in tonight. Anyone want to make some guess's before I post the result? I left it in drive today for a baseline. Sorry I don't know the race weight yet.
