Jay,

What if you had received an acceptance letter? Would you have actually purchased a new GT? Sure, it's going to be a collector car and end up trading hands much higher, but I bet Ford will have a timer on how long you have to own it before selling it. Like the P1, the new GT will likely never be sold second hand for less than the original price.

Yes, I would have bought one.  I was primarily viewing it as an investment though, and was planning to hold it for 5-10 years and then sell it.  Of course, I haven't sold a performance car in 25 years  ;D, so maybe I would have just kept it in the end...

I do think Jay that would have been a great investment. after a ten year or so hold, I'd venture one could get 50-75% more than the list price, pretty good at a 5%+  per annum growth rate!

I told you that you should have used me as a reference on your application! 8)  Anyways, you'll be able to snag one of those for 1/2 price in about 2 years.

Ford would have been pissed anyway when you put a massive Cammer in there and dominated dragweek  :P

I can see the headlines now
"Nearly Canadian man wins drag week with an engine built in his garage, crushes Ford Engineering's dreams."

Unlikely. I have a feeling the new GT will appreciate in value similarly to the 05/06 GT. Those cars have easily doubled in value in 10 years, and a little more than 4,000 of them were built. With only 500 made, I figure in 10 years it will be trading hands around $1M. Oh and expect like 50 of them to be destroyed beyond repair.

I'm guessing that statement was made tongue-in- cheek. Even a Mopar guy has to acknowledge deity when he see's it ;D

That's a serious prediction. My crystal ball tells me that these cars will take a big hit in resale value in 2 years, languish there in the 200K to 300K range (depending on condition ) for about 2-5 years, then slowly creep up with inflation until 2026, then take off when they are rediscovered.

Only time will tell.

Jay did you send (video/picture) documentation of your FORD GT at Drag Week?....
Previous Owner & National Attention (not to mention Winning Class) I'd have thought would be a shoe in.... Only making 500 I believe they stated - so that's a small pie to spread around.

In that case put me down for 2 of them!

I missed out on my '67 Shelby (selling it for $4500) I turned down a mint Pantera for $18,000, I wouldn't go to 45K on a '69 Boss 429 and I thought a little over 100K was too much for the '05 GT.  I keep messing up on car investing and this time if they come down around 200K I'm going to get one.

I did not send a video, but I mentioned the win at Drag Week and the car's appearance in Hot Rod magazine, and also (believe it or not) in Diesel Power magazine.  Also sent links to the web site and my Drag Week 2006 blog, and assorted pictures.  I had to throw it all together at the last minute because I'd been spending a fair amount of time with my wife, who was in the hospital for a stretch, and didn't really want to think about anything else...

My understanding is that a large Facebook profile was important to the people deciding who got the cars.  I have ZERO Facebook profile; I don't care for that site.  If that's what it took, then I had no chance from the start.

True, only time will tell. If it does drop to $200-300k, there will be a lot of people buying them as investments. The 500 unit production run is what tells me that the new GT will never fall below list price.
