FORD GT's 1-2 at WATKINS GLEN
« on: July 03, 2016, 09:21:02 PM »
OK I'm wondering are the FORD GTs that just ran at the Glen the same cars (not simply #s on other cars) that ran at LeMans, Daytona and Sebring?... Understandably endurance racing wears components out but it sure would be interesting if and what things can hold up to being run for multiple races.

Agree!  I don't know the answer, but I imagine that everything is checked and lots of items are simply changed out especially after a 24-hour event like LeMans.  Some series such as Indycar and F1 require a minimum mileage from engines and transmissions with the idea of reducing cost; if the engine or trans is changed before the mileage limit a penalty is imposed.  Don't know if the sanctioning body in this case (IMSA) has such a rule.

I read a funny story about the #68 Ford that won at LeMans this year; after the race the chief mechanic was informed by the officials that because they won they would have the "privilege" of having their car in post-race scrutineering (tech inspection) for up to 2 weeks!  Needless to say he was not impressed especially since the car would have to race again on another continent in 2 weeks.  :o
