I have a set of PI 390 short tubes to install.

would a performer 390 be of help ?
Hyd cam recommendation. [ auto trans 3.00 ratio ]
i was thinking mill the heads good valve job and mild port work.

You'll have to work smart with it to improve.  352, big car, 3:00 rear.  Small hydraulic roller,  less than 220 @ .050 needed.  Think about a RPM or a 428 CJ iron intake, OR a ported Ed Performer.  Real good valve job and milling a good idea.  The stroker using your block at 4.030 is a win-win.  If you are going to freshen it, you should do the real good valve job and spend the porting money on the 352 stroker parts.  Stroke will be your friend in a 3:00 geared cruiser.

3.25 gears & a 1850 holley with your headers will work wonders.
