Found a 63 Galaxie Convertible with what is said to be a 406
for the step son.Hes talking about buying a Impala cant let that happen
It have the headers, and 3 carb manifold, DP Dist, is there any
clue if the block is 406 exept casting dates. Between wich dates
was the 406 produced?Dont think the car is a original 406 v
car. 406 with 3 carb is a g code right?

Look for HP casting on block, and check casting numbers against 406 numbers... 406 was only produced for the second half of 62 and the first half of 63... Cut off for 63 is "usually" around Dec, but a few later ones have been found.

But let me say this, it likely has C3AE-C heads on it which makes everyone think 406. Unfortunately most of those heads are standard 390 heads used on most later 63 390s. Of course check for adjustable rockers as well, and beware of "built to 406 specs" which means .080" overbore!

G is the 406 3x2.
B is the 406 1x4.
Pretty easy to spot a real 63 406.
No power steering.
No power brakes.
No auto trans.
etc. etc.

Well its like this in Sweden. If it was sold new here
It probably have had 25-30 owners in there early
twenties. That flogged the life out of the original 406
engine and a bunch of 390s after that. just the carb
intake and headers left from the original engine
Or someone bought the 406headers carb from
a grenaded 406 and put it on a 390... some 406
are crossbolted arnt they?

Very very few 406's got crossbolts.  Apparently only some of the last ones, if the articles I've read are correct...  Also, apparently a very few of the last 406's got the long cast iron headers.
