Da Grump

Heard on another forum Grumpy Jenkins had passed away.

Albeit a Chevy guy, it is sad to think we are loosing these icons that in my mind are not from so long ago.  Seems like the 70's and 80's were just yesterday.....

Saw that elsewhere too. Remembered seeing Jenkins at the now long closed U.S. 30 drag strip in NW Indiana ((Sunday, Sunday at beautiful US 30 dragstrip, the drag racing capitol of Chicagoland!) I think first in 1970. He didn't travel much to the Midwest back then as he didn't need to. He always had the fastest early Pro Stock Chevy and the match race promoters out East kept him there.

My younger bro' was amazed that we could get so close to his and Dyno Don's cars in the pits, actually leaning on the cars while Earl Wade worked on the 70' Maverick's SOHC and Bill chewing that ever-present, but never lit cigar while jetting his all-white '68 Camaro! What fun back then indeed.

Oh, and to qualify with a 'test' question for anyone who ever had the misfortune to visit the washrooms at US 30, what was the big problem one had to overcome?

I'm waiting........LOL!
