I am pulling my motor/trans this weekend to change the oil pan, clean up the firewall and paint it, new bushing kit in the clutch bar, new rack bushings, tie rods, etc.. while the motor is out I am putting the inner springs in the heads, and welding new injector bungs in the tunnel ram. Had problems with back firing with the efi tunnel ram, and think it has to do with tight valves and timing..
I am using a 60 cover and balancer/pulley and the marks on the balancer have 0 then I think 30 ATDC and nothing on the BTDC, and just 10 on the pointer. Question is when I bring number 1 to TDC and put the distributor in with rotor pointing to number 1 on the cap, then turn the housing CW to advance timing to get my timing? I have an old timing light with no dial on it. Timing should be around 16-18 BTDC? I will try and make marks on the balancer on the BTDC to 20 or so while the motor is out.
