1965 Mustang color options
« on: February 27, 2016, 11:07:48 PM »
Even as I am closing in on putting paint on my Mustang I still haven't decided for sure what color I want it. I am only interested in Factory 1965 Mustang colors so I have narrowed it down to four. In order of preference: 1. Guardsman Blue  2. Rangoon Red(original color) 3. Poppy Red  4. Wimbledon White. I believe all were on some sort of race car back in the day which is the look I am going for.
What do you guys think?

Going for something like one of these?

Gotta love the teardrop hoods on the A/FXs.  :)

That's the plan. Only with a coupe(couldn't afford a fastback). I have a teardrop hood on order.  ;D

Given the color choices, I would have to pick Black.

My first car was a 67 Mustang that my Dad bought new in 67.  He ordered it special with Poppy Red paint.  When I got it in 76 it needed paint, and I added two Shelby-ish black stripes down the hood, roof, and trunk.  That color combination looked awesome, and at some point I'm going to paint my 68 fastback the same way.  My vote is for Poppy Red with some black accents of some sort...

Is poppy  red as orange as it looks on my 'puter? If so, I vote for poppy red or guardsman blue. Later, Travis

Have you got your interior yet? If it's not black then that could play a major role in the body color.

I'm really not a fan of white on a street car, unless it's something like the old GT350-R's combination. Poppy is right square between orange and red. I don't think you could go wrong with any of the others, but I'd lean towards the Guardsman Blue personally. I might even throw a dash of pearl in it to make it come alive.

The interior will be/is black. I included Wimbledon White in my list because I was considering adding some period correct graphics on it and that would go well with white. However, since I want to take it to Drag Week I cannot have any graphics on it unless I run in the Gasser class and I can't run in the Gasser class unless I have a straight axle.  At some point I may do that but not right now.

Wow, I must have missed that rule for the graphics. That seems like a petty ridiculous rule to say the least. What the heck do graphics have to do with the performance of a car? Are you sure they weren't talking about stickers, because lots of cars come from the factory with stripes, or they're a dealer installed add-on.

By graphics Alan means a bunch of contingency stickers or sponsor logos painted on the car.  Stripes or artwork of any sort are legal, outside of that definition.  I think what they don't want, except in the Gasser class, is for the cars to be looking like race cars at an NHRA event

Graphics make the car go faster! Though you knew that. And the louder the graphics, the faster the car goes! LOL
