Why NASCAR is in serious trouble!
« on: March 21, 2012, 01:04:20 PM »
http://www.nascar.com/news/120320/cknaus-jjohnson-rhendrick-win-final-appeal/index.html

Have to admit that in recent years, my following of NASCAR has ebbed a lot for a host of reasons. But, this travesty of putting Jimmie Johnson and his team back in the hunt smacks of heavy favoritism. Now, being  a Ford fan, one could say I'm biased....and I am. But, if Knaus and Hendrick weren't cheating, why is the $100,000 fine still being assessed?

I'd love to see Ford, Dodge and Toyota teams boycott the next race and sit it out, that and the other Chevy teams that do play by the rules. Ain't gonna happen though, is it?  And they wonder why fan enthusiasm has declined!

Can anyone give a succinct explanation of why the 'C' pillars were found to be unacceptable?

NASCAR stated that they were 'modified' (from accepted templates) and 'gave the rear of the car more downforce', obviating, to some extent, the pre and post race checking of the deck lid's spoiler angle.

I'd like more info here on exactly what they did too but methinks NASCAR is playing coy to prevent others from adopting the same strategy.

I would have liked hendrick to accept the penalty and pull ALL Hendrick teams from Nascar until suspension is over ... I bet Nascar attendence would really drop with Johnson , Gordan , Jr and Kahne out of the next 6 races ..... that has to be more than 50 percent of Nascar fan base or more ..... and then see just how Nascar handles even less fans, plus all the Nascar shows would have a hey-day with a story like that , JMHO

edit to add .... the only thing wrong with Hendrick Motorsports is they run chevies , would love to have a orginization like that on the Ford camp

For anyone who gives a damn, I did find some interesting commentary at this site (and not just this one article either) on what the heck happened with the points penalty being rescinded. Seems many are upset by this action and NASCAR's cavalier attitude of essentially saying, it's over, move on, nothing to see here!

Interesting too that until about the first 1/2 of the Bristol race (I tend to not watch every lap) I hadn't quite noticed that the FOX TV team kept the cameras drilled on closeups. Well, at the 1/2 way mark the cameras started to show a much wider angle view and, lo and behold, the stands were about 1/2 empty.

I thought the early a.m rain that was mentioned was the cause but......clicking on some other Racintoday.com articles, they spell out the massive decline in attendance in the last handful of years at Bristol and why. Sad but it could not have happened to a nicer bunch of NASCAR officials in my book! Give the races back to the racers, I say.

I still blame the template car, why have the same car with chevy,Yota,Ford,Dodge decals on it? Why not just call it AMC(all motors combined) racing I am sure they could make a template for the engines as well. geesh. To me thats when it became seriously boring.
