Color choice CJ intake
« on: February 18, 2016, 07:19:06 PM »
After some googling and advices  the CJ-intake will be removed , C8OE-9425-C , from the 390. Then it will be glasblasted and painted, maybe powder coated.

In 1963 the High performance intakes had natural alu finish, the other 390s ( and all other engines that year) had black intakes. The intake is from a 67 Mustang, so the original color is Ford Blue

The valve covers will be chrome 67-70 390GT/428 with "Power by Ford" script. Not original neither to the engine or car, but IMO they look great

Its not an alu intake, so my choice will be between blue and black. If its gonna be black, what finish had the paint on original 390 intakes in 63? Flat, semi flat or gloss? If blue will be the choice its gloss blue

Some opinions what color it should be?

And then its the typical fan guard like this http://car-from-uk.com/sale.php?id=80082 I assumed they were painted in satin like the engine bay, not gloss like this. Right?

Kjell, for those original color questions suggest you ask Greg Donahue: www.gregdonahue.com.  He's a '63-'64 Galaxie specialist and has written books on restoration.  He's also a contributor for the Galaxie club.  If you want to know what it was like from the factory, he's the guy.

Thanks Bruce, but I Just red in the Greg Donahue Catalog no.30 about engine colors, but there isnt any stuff about finish. He isnt possible to contact via email. One solution could be buying paint from Greg Donahus, then it will be correct finish. But it will be expensive cause I live in Norway

Its not SO important to have it 110 % original, just asking for some opinions. F.ex if a 390 with blue intake would look ok in a 63 Galaxie engine bay

Off course its up tu me at last, but could be interesting to get some opinions

Kjell, Greg has only fax and telephone so I would try calling him with your list of questions.  I've had good luck speaking and ordering from him by phone.  Only 6 hrs. difference between Florida and Norway!

The intake would not have come from a 67 Mustang. 67's never got the CJ. 68 and later cars.
It will have a date code on it and you will be able to tell the exact date it was cast. It will
be a number, letter than a number. ex: 8D15,  1968 April 15

Your right ScotiaFE. The intake is probaby from a 69 Mustang, but the engine block at last is from a 67 Mustang. The intake is produced in 1969 March 14 ie 9C14
