Cammer Funny Cars
« on: February 12, 2016, 12:44:32 PM »
Phil Burgess on the NHRA site does a great job telling the stories of the history of drag racing and the early racers in his weekly Dragster Insider column. For the Winternationals going on this weekend it's the anniversary of the flip top funny cars of Dyno Don and Fast Eddie Schartman. Phil's column this week is celebrating Fast Eddie's career, and it has great info on the development of those flip top cars and touch's on Dyno Don too. Here's a link to the story:

Great story and thanks for posting it. Eddie's career back then was always overshadowed at first by Chrisman, and later by Nicholson. A real racer, for sure. Interesting on a few things I hadn't ever read before (weight, spoiler) about those fabulous Logghe cars.

Somewhere in this Pete Robison link is the Logghe 427 Ford SOHC AA/FD that for some reason or other was barely campaigned back then, why I don't know.  Maynard Rupp (sp?) was their 'house' dragster driver using the Prussian name on his 392 Hemi dragster but I do know he drove the Cammer a few times.
