302 distributor adaptor to FE?
« on: February 09, 2016, 03:38:02 PM »
Sent Jay a message but thought I would run it past all the others here. I have been putting together my FE Mustang small block hybrid for a few years now. All that is left is my largest hurtle, the distributor. I need a TFI distributor and have exhausted all othe avenues. Here is my thought: take an FE distributor housing and bore it to accept a 302 distributor. The pump drive is the same 1/4" hex and the FE housing is substantially larger. I had a guy working supposibly on building me one up but he disappeared with my MSD and a new 351 Windsor distributor along with a couple hundred in cash. So far here is what I got, a SN95 stick PCM, mass air flow conversion harness with a 1991 Bronco harness, Moet's tuner, a Trick Flow Box R intake, 90mm throttle body, one of Jay's intake adaptors, electric water pump with a set of Jays manifolds, serpentine drive from a 351 with saganaw steering pump, and a bunch of other goodies like a MSD digital box with TFI harness and Accel TFI coil. All I need now is a distributor and a few misc parts and I am ready to assemble everything ( again LOL).

Ok I would not profess to know anything, with that said if I understand what you are doing is instaling a efi system from newer model mustang. If that is correct you can run that digital box as a stand alone and your pcm will never know. Your msd distributor will have your advance and the msd box is your module, so you don't need another distributor with module like the factory mustang has... Hope that helps.

The problem I am running into is I cannot find a trigger for the PIP signal that designates #1. I can retune the injector sequence and firing order no problem with the tuner but the PCM needs a OEM Hall effect trigger to operate, at least that is what MSD told me. I tried Mallory also and they said they do not have a comparable distributor either. I can use a regular MSD box to fire the plugs but the PCM uses a different signal so the injectors and timing controll will not be present, I do not fully understand the system myself as of yet but I know it will only operate with a TFI trigger.

This may not help you but you can use points to trigger a tfi module they send a digital signal like a hall sensor. Check on gofastforless.com  better dirt cheap electronic ignition for more info.

I have a FE TFI distributor that I'm not using.  I originally bought a Mass Flo system which uses the '89-93 5.0 stuff... I decided to switch to FAST EFI.   I have a distributor, a spare TFI module and two, yes, two A9L ECUs.  Let me know if you're interested.  I also have a quarter horse tuning module.
