2016 FORD GT vs FORD GT race-car differences?
« on: February 04, 2016, 10:37:05 PM »
Both FORD GTs went out early with transmission problems at DAYTONA Rolex 24 GTLM class

Who would ever think the "street car" makes 20+% more power!

Yep, as Howie said the Sebring 12-hour is next then LeMans: http://www.racer.com/latest-stories/item/125893-ford-headlines-60-car-le-mans-field

The 4 Ford GTs entered will carry the numbers 66-69 to remember their 4 victories back in the day.

In regard to the early retirement of the Ford GTs at Daytona, it would be well to remember that the first outing of the Cobra, all those years ago, also resulted in a DNF. Many of the fasteners simply weren't up to the torque from the 260 engine, having been spec'ed for the Coventry six-cylinder in the original AC Ace.

At the next race they were able to lap the field at will.

Ford GT at Daytona fronting 2 Corvettes and a Ferrari, like God intended!

Maybe I missed something but when did the GT's drop out? They were still running after some repairs even though they were 30 laps + behind. The lap speeds were still competitive with the leaders. To answer BB's question the answer is NASCAR runs the series and the GT's have to run a restrictor in the air inlet. After last years Daytona 24 hour they quickly ruled to reduce the power of the Ford powered cars. The Lemans race is under a different ruling body. The stock GT does not have to run restricted = more power. I believe it was Bill Conley who stated that the engines were making over 800 bhp, w/o restrictors in testing.

Sure wonder how many that checked out this thread actually hit the link to see the:

"How The Ford GT Race Car Differs From The Road Car"

http://www.motorauthority.com/news/1102196_how-the-ford-gt-race-car-differs-from-the-street-car/page-1

So cool to see the way's the GTs are actually restrained (no carbon fiber rotors on race car) and see/read about how bad ass the GTs are.
Regarding "restrictors" I think it is confusing with the DAYTONA PROTOTYPES running Ecoboost's and the FORD GTLM's running Ecoboost's ...........I for one have no idea how close the entirely different classes motors are:

"Both Ford GTs suffered gearbox issues that quickly set them too far behind to catch up. The news was better for the two-car EcoBoost-powered Prototype team until the No. 02 Target/Claritin Riley was sidelined twice with brake problems in the overnight hours. A third brake issue put the No. 02 into the tire wall with just 2 hours, 40 minutes to go with Kyle Larson behind the wheel. Meanwhile, the No. 01 Claritin/Target Riley remained on the lead lap until early Sunday morning until it was sent to the garage for a quick check-up with five hours to go before returning to the track four laps down

Well I followed the race on the TV and spider web if that counts.
Pretty sure I will follow along with the testing and watch the big race. ;)
If I actually had money I would probably go and watch the race live.
