I am fairly close to finishing my 65 Mustang/Fe but I have always wanted to put an FE in a Maverick ever since I saw Nick Zuk's 427 Maverick on the cover of HotRod back around 1979. This one looks pretty straight and would be a decent start. I have owned a 73 and I know you can get a pretty big tire under the back without a lot of work. Just dreamin'

There hasn't been a Maverick that clean in Minnesota in about 4 decades lol. I remember being at an all Ford swap meet / car show at Brookdale Ford in the early eighties and someone had a Maverick "Body in White" for sale, always wondered where it wound up, would have been the start of a great race car.

I had a '72 Grabber 302 with bucket seats, air and factory SHAG CARPET (gotta love the '70s ) when I was in school. Wish I had kept that one. Being so light, it didn't take much to make that thing really scoot! Just a mildly built 302 with a shift kit made that thing a handful!

I'd grab it but ask for a few underhood and maybe underbody pics 1st. Sure, you may be space limited but on the other hand, who said you have to 'do' the car right away? Clean cars like that don't grow on trees and heck, with a paint job that ride would look like new regardless of what's under the hood.

And on that subject, you need to talk to Jay about one of those orphaned SOHC's he always seems to have floating around in his pics!

Wouldn't it be great to do it up as a tribute car like one of these?

That would make a white knuckle ride for sure!  Funny comment about Minnesota, I was thinking the same thing about Connecticut or New England in general as I was reading the CL post.  Not much anything of that vintage around here even if it was stored in a building.

1979 is a long time ago. As soon as you had the Maverick, you'd realize that it is like the chick you lusted over in high school, who is now roaming the isles of Walmart in a tank top at 250 pounds with a missing front tooth.  True, the Maverick is kinda scarce and different, and the Mustang is more common. But the Mustang on a bad day is better way looking and cooler than a Maverick on its best day... I would stick with the Mustang.  Day dream about the Mavrick as it was in 1979, but don't go there in 2016!

But the Mustang on a bad day is better way looking and cooler than a Maverick on its best day... I would stick with the Mustang.  Day dream about the Mavrick as it was in 1979, but don't go there in 2016!

It seems with Mavericks you either love them or hate them. Personally I love them, but I know almost everyone loves Mustangs so I'll most likely pass on this in the end. I still think it would be very cool but I REALLY need to finish this st**id Mustang once and for all that I have working on for the last 8 yrs. NO distractions.
