Ya know I don't know if it's NHRA legal but I have been using hurst quarter stick for years past tech inspection at englishtown NJ raced almost every weekend for 10 years changed cable twice it stretches 50 bucks and a half hour and your done. Basic dependable shifter.

Art Carr/Turbo Action style has been in my car for 30 years. The cable (original) has stretched a bit but I relocated the arm ball to compensate.

As long as you have a manually operated reverse lockout you should be good to go.

The stock Mustang floor shifter works great with a C6 or C4.  It can be easily modified so you have to push the button on the handle to go past third for a normal pattern or it can be modified to work with a reverse pattern.  The detents fit perfectly.  Don Keen and Alex Denysenko use the stock Ford shifters on there SS Mustangs (small blocks with C4 trans).
