My 504 has a 4.375 crank with 2.200 rod journals. The cam has .375 lobe lift. Rods are Scat 6.7 I-beams. I can barely get a .025 feeler gauge between the hip of the rod and #7 exhaust lobe. It all just happened to work together without any grinding. But I think if I started playing with cam timing that I might run into clearance issues.
