I have a few original  390 and 406 badges  and as was pointed out the numbers can be seen from the back side. A couple of 427 re po's they can not be seen.  I'm deff not a restore guy or original  parts type guy but when I seen this I had to look. LoL

In my experience there should be a part no., FoMoCo logo, and even a date code.  It sometimes surprises me that Ford's suppliers could put that info in the smallest places.  But looking at Stangman's originals there are none in this case.  Maybe Ford just decided to put a removable tag on them instead.  I've always loved that design!

I'm a Fairlane Club of America member (Fairlaneclubofamerica.com) and in the Fairlaner magazine there are occasional contributions from retired Ford stylists. One stylist told the story that he was tasked to come up with a roof emblem (C-pillar) for the new Falcon Sports Coupe.  It was to be done by lunchtime, and he got in a rush with some other projects.  When he finally got around to doing the new emblem, he did it while eating his sack lunch.  So what inspired him?  An Oreo cookie that he had for dessert!  The emblem ended up looking like an Oreo cookie with a abstract falcon in the middle!  If anyone in the Forum owns a '65-'66 Falcon Sports Coupe you'll know what I'm talking about!

We had a look at a couple of '63 390 badges which ToddK has, and we believe they are original.
They seem to be made the exact same way that bottom emblem is made on the very first pic, where the numbers can be seen from the back. It is also the exact same size, whereas the other two in that pic are a little smaller.
But the difference now is that these two 390 emblems are a very light aluminum, where the reproduction 427 emblems are a heavier alloy of some sort.

The original 427 badge is extremely light and the same color as the back of the 390 badge. And the 390 badge looks like it has no gold in it at all I have seen that before
