WANTED 3/8" Mechanical fuel pump
« on: February 20, 2012, 11:18:29 AM »
Looking for an upgrade to my 5/16 fuel pump.   I see new ones to be quite expenisive as most FE parts are.   I have no idea why most manufactures offer a 1/4" but only a couple 3/8".  So if you've got a spare sitting around that you want to sell, drop me a msg.

When they list 1/4" they are spec'ing a 1/4" NPT.
The actual hole through the 1/4" NPT fitting is about 0.380" or just over 3/8".
You can even drill out the bore a smidge.
Just some info for ya.

So would the Holley 1/4 110GPH pump be better then the Edelbrock 3/8 110GPH or could we say they're both the same performing pump?  This is going on a 428 with 100 shot of nitrous that I was affraid to try without upgrading the fuel system.  My 69 Mustang has 3/8 line throughout except from the pump to carb which is 5/16.  Carb is 4150 Holley with 78's front 80's rear and I forget what the fuel size was for a 100 shot of nitrous.  60 jet?  So thats a total of .376 line required...

I read a post about fuel pumps on here and started looking at electric but not sure if I want to complicate things with electric or even see the advantage.

The RobbMC are a nice pump good reviews but I don't think my 600HP target would need this pump and they're quite expensive fuel pumps.  Or should I?

If you could give some more details of your 428 and NOS plan.
A 600 HP 428 is a pretty healthy pump.

If you're going to have 600 HP, you might consider upgrading to 1/2" fuel lines especially if you're going to use nitrous and consider the RobbMc 1/2" fuel sender.  Get the RobbMc pump if you want to stay mechanical.  Otherwise get a good electric pump big enough for using nitrous with a return style regulator.  Some guys use a separate pump/regulator for the nitrous.  Making power the right way isn't cheap.
