63 Galaxie Carb
« on: August 27, 2015, 10:31:49 PM »
   Hey guys,

The 63 Galaxie that has been at my shop since last November is still here as a back burner project. I had a little time today to fool around with the carb. It idles rich with the idle screws all the way in. Suspecting the power valve was leaking, we put a new power valve in there and it didn't help. The carb is a Holley 42**. I forget the list number. It's like an 1850 single feed w/vacuum.
My question is, originally, did a 63 Galaxie with a regular 390 have an Autolite 4100? If so, I am not going to waste my time with the Holley.

   thanks,
      Mark

I have  63-390 4spd in the back of the garage, Its diffinently got an autolite 4BBl on it. It is all original, but the heads are on my 63 427 in my 63 Galaxie.

If it's rich and idle screws unresponsive with the engine hot, check to see if the vacuum port on the metering block is alive at idle.  If it is, you may need to open the secondaries and close the primaries.  A little air flow can pull from the transition circuit and even make the boosters dribble

If its rich and idle screws are unresponsive with choke not yet open, wait until you can get it off fast idle because it will do the same thing

Basic stuff, no intent to offend, but I see a lot of Holleys with the primaries too far open and it does exactly what you see
