How an automatic transmission works....
« on: August 11, 2015, 08:47:41 PM »
Just thought some of you "auto" guys might find this helpful, since automatics always have that "black magic" aura associated with them. Turns out they're pretty straight forward and easy to understand ;D ;D

Dont it make ya wanna get one ?  LoL
no seriously I ran a C6 for a long time. Roller bearings,  low gear set and it held up just fine.
Stuck a crash boxed top loader in with a solid disk clutch and adjustable pressure plate and I was hooked.
Next came the jerico and a windowed bell for quick adjustments and no looking back.
Got my eye on a good friends completely re worked jeffco when hes ready to make a deal.

As my friend Joel says, why would anyone put an oily, greasy, smelly, fluid coupling in their car?   ;D

On the other hand, how can you identify the stick cars at the track?
     - Look for the cars with the biggest piles of broken parts  ;D ;D ;D

Very good..when I bought the 68 in 1977 it was a small block auto. After a year of abuse and too many drinks one night I broke it bad...4spd ever since.I even broke the C-6 in my FE powered F-250..Didnt brake the auto in my 7.3 ford but I didn't abuse it...

I'll take 3 pedals any day...I do much better with them

Auto trans users are...shiftless?  ;)

Jay's somewhat right about broken parts. Yet, with today's adjustable, lock-up clutches and face-plated stick trannys, it is a reliable way to go fast with minimal breakage and far less parasitic hp loss.

Now that was totally uncalled for...no matter how true it is!  ;D

Just imagine how fast they'd be with an extra gear and less power loss. Not to even get into the cool factor..lol

But Ya gotta admit Jay.
The Stang redo with 5 gear and the WAY KOOL Fastback Torino with three pedals
are what make them ultra kool.
They would be just coolish with the lady shifter.
Me thinks you would have passed on the Torino if it was an auto car.  ::)

If it was an auto car, it wouldn't have been a Drag Pack car, so you're right about that, Howie...
