Ha! That's my neighbor's house, actually.  I finally got here at about 9pm. My a/c quit working at about Oakley but after a couple of stops I got it fixed. A wire going to the high pressure switch had broken inside the insulation. One thing about that diesel, I just turned the cruise on and ran right up those hills in 6th gear at 68mph, and got 13.5 mpg doing it!
I may have to get another motel though. When I got here at the Hampton Inn I found that they have no parking spots for truck/trailers. They basically wanted me to park in the restaurant parking lot next door behind a retaining wall with the assurance that it wouldn't get towed or nothing stolen. I parked it there at first but I went back and told them there was no way I could leave it there. Even where it is now I am not too happy. I am not sure I will want to do one of these again. After 10 hours on the road I am already "drove out" for the week!

RMRW update
Well it looks like I am done before it got started. I found out this morning that I wasn't supposed to be at the track until 3 so instead of hanging around the motel I decided to unload the Galaxie and cruise up through the foothills. Well, it didn't take too long until I noticed my transmission was getting really hot. It pegged my gauge by the time I got back to the motel and the fluid smells burnt. I noticed the other night when I took it for a little drive that it was getting a little hotter than I had liked. So, I guess I am going to load it back up and head home.

Man, what a bummer!  Been there, done that, unfortunately; I feel for you Alan  :(   Silver lining:  time enough to fix the car for Drag Week?

Alan, beautiful Galaxie! But it just wasn't your day.  As Jay says regroup and plan for the next one with what you've learned.

I don't think I did any permanent damage and I might have gotten by if I changed the fluid at the track but I doubt it. I just don't like to tear my stuff up needlessly and I knew it was going to be a long hot week. I was not real surprised it did what it did since I was having issues last year during DW. Not a trip stopper but the temp did get up around 230 just driving down the highway. I thought it might get better when I went to a taller gear but it didn't. I think it is a combination of a loose converter and a heavy car. I should have dug into it deeper after DW last year but honestly I thought I would be racing in an FE powered '65 Mustang this time. I'm really only using my Galaxie because it is done. Well done to the point it's usable, it's never REALLY done! As far as DW 2015, I am registered but I told myself RMRW was the last racing for the Galaxie regardless of the outcome. I want to use more of a real race car, whether it is my 65 Mustang or something else.

Sorry to hear about you having to drop out, Alan.  :-\
I have a 2 word solution to your faulty, slippery, oily, smelly fluid coupling: T56 Magnum!
