Got air off the trailer!
« on: June 21, 2015, 07:51:30 PM »
The car ran perfect, the human needs a lot of work. :P
We only got 4 passes (weather was not on our side) but it did yank the left front off the ground and
that was the goal.
Best time was a high 12, there is a lot of practice needed to get a handle on the thing.

Getting Air!

Congrats, Howie! Making it through the day with no issues on a mostly new set-up is pretty impressive by itself. Nice job.

But I don't see a cloud in the sky. What was the issue with the weather?

Car looks great. Always cool to yank the wheels. Maybe you could post it in the drag strip results section?

We are in Nova Scotia. ;) Wait for it will change fast.
Friday was a rain out, Saturday is the gamblers race for money so that is like the slowest thing you can watch
which is ironic because it is racing. lol
Sunday it started raining just after the Pro Cars, which the Fairlane is a Pro Car, got one test run and then they called it.
Of course the idiot got to tweaking the car and it got slower. ::) oops
The car needs some consistent test runs to get it setup. Pretty much everything on the car is a adjustable so it will take some time.

This is a stick car so some things are all over the place.
Especially the nut at the controls.
The 4 speed is a Jerico with a 3.08 first and a 4.57 rear gear.
Tires are Hoosier 9X28.
Best 60 was 1.73.
Best speed was 108.98 MPH.
Best ET was 12.93
Engine is RPM limited to 6000 for the learning curve.
Never did get it up to full speed.

Nice job and a beautiful car. By your quarter mile MPH you should easily be able to get into the low 12's with a little more tweaking.

Ha! I know what you mean, Ohio is no different.
I'm curious what pressures you were running in the rear tires and what type of clutch you have (can't remember if you mentioned the clutch type)?
Sure, you'll have a bunch of tweaking and learning to do, but that's to be expected. Hopefully you'll get some more shots in this year.

The tires had 18 lbs and was probably a tad to much.
The clutch is a McLeod soft lok and just set with the factory recommend base.
I had a heat gun on it just after each run and it sure wasn't getting hot so,
I don't really know if it is working right. :P
The shocks are the real touchy items one little click and you can really feel a difference.
The first run was kind of a baby run and really took it easy and it yank the front wheel.
Then the nut case behind the wheel started thinking he could drive the car, and it was down hill after that. ;)
Next outing should be 11 July weekend.

There are plenty of guys here that could help you with your adjustments, much better than I can, but getting that air pressure down around the 13lb area would really help with your launch and tire spinning. 18 is pretty high for those tires.

Good luck, Howie. Looking forward to hearing about your progress.
