let's talk valve covers
« on: February 26, 2015, 09:01:06 AM »
Wondering if anyone has suggestions on valve covers.  Currently have chrome powered by covers and although they clear the comp rollers in my 67 mustang,  it required taking out the baffles and thus I always have oil slung out of breather and PVC connection.  Trying to figure out and have a set that will clear booster.

Thanks

Are they factory V/C or repo?  Where did the rockers interfere with the baffles, on the sides or the upper curve of the rocker?

They are factory VC not repo's.  They interfered in both areas.  The sides were cured by grinding the stands.  The upper curves were somewhat massaged and that kept them from hitting rockers but did not help with slinging oil out of the tops.

Are you looking for info on how to use the stock ones with larger than stock rockers?
A spacer will help.
If you want to up grade to a different cover. well that list is long and some are pretty pricey. ::)
My personal fav for stockish look and fit is the CJ covers.
A set of the Pent steels look great also.
I also like the cast pents with the fins milled off. Very Kool looking.
And on and on...

I guess I was not clear.  I am wanting to know which of the choices will allow being taken off without taking the booster loose on the brakes.  The Powered by stock ones would come off but they were messy and I was thinking of the pent roof style IF they will fit without to much effort around the booster???

That depends on which booster you have.
With the small Midland with band clamp you can fit the tall cast covers with the fins (although I think they look better with the fins milled off. :D)
and you do not have to move the booster to get the cover off. BUT you will have to undo the export brace to get it off.
That's how it works on my 68 anyways.

Yup.  Same booster.  That helps a lot, thanks  ;)
