Those are cool, alright.  I had no idea that Steve McQueen had a Cobra!  I assume it was his, and not just a posed picture?  Anybody have any information on that?

You know, a guy could put together the "Steve McQueen Collection" in his two car garage, with a 68 green Mustang fastback and a 289 Cobra.  You'd have all the important cars there LOL!

Yes...and no.

More great Cobra pics here:  http://www.davemacdonald.net/gallery/closeups/cobraroadamerica500.htm

The article below says he didn't actually own one but did, in the above link, sponsor a Cobra in competition.

Steve McQueen did own a GT40, although technically it was his movie production company Solar Films. McQueen wanted to make an authentic racing film when he took on making the movie "LeMans", no speeding up of the film tricks, etc. GT40/P1074 was purchased to make into a camera car to be able to keep up with the actual cars racing. P1074 was a veteran race car having competed in the LeMans race twice. The roof was cut off and modifications made to mount the camera. How'd you like to be the camera operator here going about 150 mph?

Someday I need to get my old mid-60's slides from Watkins Glen converted to digital- Ford GT MKIII street car, Cobras and R-Models, Bob Bondurant's McLaren on the transport after he went by me upside down and backwards about 10 ft in the air at 150 on the front straight, Mark Donohue's 66 LolaT70 before and after it burned to the ground, and the 67 T70MKII with the flared fenders and yellow trim, Lothar Motshenbacher's beautiful silver McLaren, the gorgeous dark blue with light blue #8 T70 of Jerry Grant etc.. All the R-Model and 289 Cobra teams had a GT350-H parked in their paddock area, saw the engines get pulled out of two on Saturday and put in dead race cars then put back after the race Sunday

Cut the roof off of an original GT40? Ouch!! Looking back, they should have used something less desirable, like a McLaren,  Ferrari or Lamborghini...lol
