The new Ford GT

Hi all,
See the recent article from Racer.com on Ford's LeMans program for 2016 and a nice shot of the new GT!  Said to have a twin-turbo inter cooled V6, for about 600HP in street tune.

It looks good to me, would love to see Ford have some great winners for the 50th anniversary of the '66-'69 LeMans 24 wins.  Those achievements really captured my imagination when I was a 'teener.

Those cars are cool, but I like my 2005 a lot better.  Besides, the new one has a V-6  :o

I'm with Jay on this one.  The new GT is certainly a technological tour-de-force, with it's wild aero treatment and high tech powertrain.  It will put up some damned impressive numbers, even compared to the 2005-2006 cars and some current supercars.

It's just not very pretty though.  I don't feel the history when I look at it.  The Lambo doors and the mishmash of angular surfaces on the rear leave me cold.  I could almost forgive the small V6 engine, since it's the future. 

I won't be fantasizing about this one.  The 2005-2006 GT is still near the top of my list!  I think an entirely different customer will be buying the new cars.

I must admit some disappointment when I didn't see the ventilation rivets in the seats!   :(

No, you can't.

There's barely enough room for the eco-boost.
Take another look at the rear quarters with the air pass-throughs under the flying buttresses.

Actually, I can't imagine how someone would physically work on that engine; maybe while hanging over it in a sling?

All the discussion about this car and no one has said what kind of sound system it has...what might they be hiding?  Not Radio Delete?!

When I was a kid, a local guy put the engine out of a P-51 in a late 20's Ford two door sedan. He 'drove' it sitting alongside the engine. You can fit ANYTHING into anything with enough will and determination. It's called hot-rodding. ;)

Nowadays it's called illegal, or begging for a lawsuit.
Tampering with an emissions controlled vehicle today is not the same as my dad building a 2x4 rollcage (yes, wood) in an old Model A and then go off and roll it in a field.

I literally used to walk 6 miles to school (only one way was uphill) in any and all weather.

It's a new century.

What I said, although true, was at least a bit tongue-in-cheek. However,...

Illegal by what laws, and a suit by who? Anyone who would do a V-8 engine swap into a new Ultra-Ford would likely be able to graft all the requisite electronics and controls as well.

Here in Michigan we no longer even have inspections.

Racer posted an update on what Ford intends to sell the new GT for.  Seems that $400k is the approximate number.  Time to start saving our allowance!  ;) for that $$, I'd rather buy one of the "older" ones and have money left over for several FE projects. 

However I'm sure Ford will sell plenty of them, especially if they make it back to LeMans next year.

I did see the new GT close up at the recent Chicagoland Auto Show.

It's cool, but I also do not like the rear quarter treatment. From the front it does closely resemble the original and the 2005 repo. But from about the door hinge line back, yikes! The rear end is different as well but o.k. at least IMO. I do think Ford should have stuck closer to either the Mark II or Mark IV rear quarter design. Heck, I would have designed a near exact copy of the Mark IV myself!

I like the looks of the car from about mid-door, forward. I suppose that back is optimized for air-flow, but it just looks too Your-a-peeing to me. ;D  Either way, I'd love to see them win Le Mans again.
