Eight Stack Fuel Injection For 480 Cubic Inch FE
« on: October 21, 2014, 11:37:11 AM »
Has anyone here done an FE with the Eight Stack fuel injection system. I am planning on building one for a street motor in a 1966 Fairlane GT that I have. I have a Shelby aluminum block with Crower crank and rods that is 480ish  cubic inch. The motor was in my 681/2 drag car. It only has about 50 runs on it but was built about 10 years ago. It now has Shelby aluminum medium riser heads with a Dove single four intake. The intake was modified by Wilson Manifolds to accept a Dominator without using an adapter and has been hogged out inside. I want to go with the newer heads maybe BBM? I need pistons to lower CR. I would like to run a solid roller but am concerned about reliability for the street. I am very interested in using the Eight Stack fuel injection but what engine management system? I plan on a big in and out toploader with a 4:10 gear. The car would see no more than 1000 miles a year all street. I want this baby to RUMP! Any thoughts? How much HP? Reliability.

You can convert the old time fuel injection systems to electronic (EFI), and they will work great.  I did it with a Hilborn setup for an SOHC.  Idled beautifully with a couple of big cams, and made over 900 HP.

You need to take the following steps:

- Remove the mechanical injector nozzles and injector tubing, and machine the cast injector base for electronic injectors.
- Make up some fuel rails to mount on the tops of the injectors.
- Tap each cylinder below the butterfly for a vacuum fitting, and run all 8 of them into a common box or manifold.  This is required for the MAP input to the EFI system.
- Work out where to put a throttle position sensor on one of the throttle shafts.

After that, you just have to hook up your fuel, MAP and throttle position sensors to the EFI system you select.  I used a FAST XFI system, but any decent EFI system should work.  It was a great project, and gave excellent results.

Multiple vendors will sell you a fully built system based on blue thunder's weber manifold.  Inglese and Imagine are just two outfits.  I'm sure there are others.  Of course you'll need an engine management system like FAST, megasquirt, or bigstuff to do the electronic part.

I will second talking to Bob Ream at Imagine Injection. He can custom build you whatever combo you need.

Jay,   I think your intake base would make a great Hilborn injector manifold if you developed a throttle /intake system to  bolt on......or even as a Weber base.

Be kinda cool......same base runs tunnel ram, injector, Webers or single four.........

I can even see using it as a base for an old school Rat/Hot rod 6v or even 8v log style intake.

We've done several using the TWM (now owned by Borla) system.  Very nice setup.  As mentioned, it is based upon the Blue Thunder Weber intake and is offered in either straight up or angled mountings.  The angled mounting helps hood scoop clearance on Cobra installations.  I would recommend the FAST xFI controlling system - the EZ-EFI might work OK on a real mild application, but it lacks the user flexibility to deal with anything having some snot to it.
