60/70 Mustang guys
« on: August 31, 2014, 10:28:24 AM »
I lost the tread from my LF BFG T/A a month or so ago, under full throttle too, sounds scarier than it was, heard a bang and got to the side of the road, no issues. Not surprised either, although they look new, they have been on the car since 2002 and were on a buddies car for a few years prior to that.

However, I am thinking about maybe a 235/60-15 instead of the 215/65-15 I run now.  The rim is a Weld 15x7 4 inch BS.  Anyone run this width and backspacing with that size tire?

It's not critical to change the tire size, and the change is not that much, but more guys seem to run the 235, I just don't want to have to worry about rubbing, or rolling fenders.

Any opinions?

Thanks

Sorry this doesn't answer your question but you asked for opinions so.........

These cars look good with skinnier front tires so a 205/70-15 is about the same diameter and will fit a 7" wide rim.  JMO

Ross, It is not the same combination, but the Ford Motorsport 17 X 8 wheels with 4 1/2" backspacing fit on my Shelby without hitting the upper ball joint. (98Cobra rims) The 17 X 9 will fit, also, and stock late model GT rims with 275-40-17s will fit.  The rear is a different problem with the bump stop hitting inside the rim when the weight unloads with the 5 1/2" backspacing on the 17s.  If you can raise the front with a jack and the inside of the rim doesn't hit the ball joint, you should be good.  Joe-JDC

I run 235/60-15 tires on my Mach 1 with no issues, but they are on the Magnum 500 rims which I believe have 4.5" backspacing.  I think you might be pretty close to the fenders with only 4" backspacing...

Jay, are your Magnums 8 inches wide?, I may actually end up in better shape, 7-4.0=3 inch outside dish, 8-4.5 = 3.5 outside.

I will say though, I am leaning toward just replacing what I have, they looked great. I was just trying to get a little more rubber on the road.

They are 7" on the front, not 8".  I do have 8" rims on the rear, but haven't ever tried them on the front...

I'm a little late in responding, but I have 235/60-15 on the front of my 69 with a 15x7 rim and 3.75 backspacing, no rubbing anywhere.  It gets close to the fender at the front when turning, but doesn't hit.
