Detroit locker is in

I installed my Detroit locker from Roush-Yates, and my new Dutchman 31 spline axles. It's pretty noisy, just like I expected, but I have a question. Is it normal for it to make a big loud CLUNK noise every once in a while on slow turning corners? The best way to describe it is that it sounds like a standard car or truck popping out of gear with a load on the drive train.

Mine does not make any noise, but you can definitely feel it when it disengages. But it seems the NASCAR units sold are noisier, so that sounds normal.

I have had several over the years, it is common to hear a clicking noise or clunk around a corner. After things break in some of that will be alleviated. Many people go limited slip for that reason but a true locker is the best option if you do not mind a little noise.

This car has no headliner, no door insulation or panels, 55 year old window and door seals, and 18 inch glass packs. Noise is not a problem.  ;0)

I have a NASCAR unit from Bill Elliot in mine and after the first drive I pulled it out to go through it again just to make sure it was right. Sounded like hell and sometimes it'd pop so hard I'd check the rear view to see that I hadn't been rear ended. I have gotten used to it but it took some doing and I enjoy others reaction thinking something is broke, I had a guy chase me down on foot while at the track to tell me that it was popping. lol

My old '63 F100 Unibody had a bullet hole that went through the rear tailgate...from the inside. I left it there when I fixed it up. It always caught peoples attention and when they asked about it I'd just say "I can't talk about it until after the trial"

yeah the locker pop / clunk , normal Dave you will get use to it - no substitute for that traction thou .. Bud
