Welcome Robbie.
Yeah we're a bit FE'centric around these parts.

welcome Robbie, good choice man!

I also considered going with a 460 and checked out the Windsor stuff too but after looking around quite a bit I decided the FE was the BEST way to go =)

Hello Robbie,

Rather fond of 64 Galaxies myself, you’ll be glad you stuck with an FE.
How far along is your project?

Cheers,
TC

Thanks for the welcome guys. I just bought the car a C code 3 speed. Solid Texas car no seats engine or trans but all the trim and clutch brake pedals are there. $500 bucks couldnt pass it up. 64s have been a bucket list car for me since I was a kid. Plans are to light weight with a 390 based motor and a top loader. Street strip would like to get it into the 11s. Dont want to have to put more than a 4 or 6 point roll bar in it. Suggestions are more than welcome
I dont care how they do it in Japan.

Welcome to forum, Robbie.  The FE is enjoying quite a resurgence in popularity, with lots of new parts available.  No reason to "hybridize" your Gal with a 385 series when you can throw a strong FE in there...

Robbie, how bout a picture or 2?  We'd love to see the raw material!  You made the best decision to go FE...

Suggestions for light weight would include fiberglass bumper brackets and fiberglass bumpers, plus a fiberglass hood and a fiberglass decklid.  These are all available from Crites Restorations, and if my experience is any guide the quality is pretty good.  Each part will save you 50 pounds, for a total of 200 pounds weight savings.

If you aren't going any faster than 11.50, you don't need a roll bar or roll cage to meet NHRA tech.  Not having that would also save you some weight.

A Pond aluminum block, Blue Thunder aluminum heads, lightened billet crank, aluminum tunnel wedge intake, hollow stem titanium valves and titanium rods should save some weight....and likely help get you into the 11s also. ;D ;D

Welcome, Robbie. This is a great place to hang out and share experience. Although we'll soon be pushing Jay to start another websight called FE-AA.

I forgot it was 11.50 thanks I was thinking it was 11.99 anyhow my best friend has a 64 basically the same car and he got every glass piece Crites has for the car less the doors. So I've seen that Charles makes some good stuff. I'll probably do the same as the doors are pretty pricey and I'm not wanting any window issues. I wish I could afford a Pond block etc but for now at least I'm looking for a 390 based motor hoping it'll get me into the 11s at 2800 ft elevation. My other buddy's had a 64 with a 466 c4 combo and no fiberglass except the hood basic Dove motor juice cam intake and headers and went 11.92 best at Norwalk a few years ago. That's part of the reason I was leaning that way but I just really enjoy the whole nostalgia part of an FE 4 speed maybe even NMRA/ Funford nostalgia class racing. They're the only Ford events out this way and it's at Ennis 5 hrs away. Everything is Chebby out here, two things I miss from living east of the Mississippi is friends/family and Fords. Sorry for the rambling I just really miss talking FORD thanks
I dont care how they do it in Japan.

FE s were made for these ole classics,385s and Windsor's make good hp,and usually cheaper to build, but I wouldn't put nothing but a FE under the hood of my Galaxie.you'll get plenty of expert support from this and the network 54 forum.

Welcome Robbie-  Well, looking back through this thread it would appear that we've just about got your'64 built ;D ;D.  Good folks, tons of knowledge and input here.  Doug is right about the addiction, the whole thing with FE's is that if you haven't lived 'em and get too close you get pulled right in 8).- Len
