Vintage video of a Fordson "Snow tractor"....
« on: May 03, 2014, 09:57:05 AM »
Don't know if any of you guys have seen this video or not so thought I'd share it. It's an old 1929 video of a Fordson tractor with a special snow drive system. This thing can go through (or over) some pretty serious snow! Pretty good at hauling some heavy weight also. Just all around cool....

That's pretty darn cool.
Check out the Fordson college project in the suggested videos in the right bar. Oops.

I have seen those conversions at the Ford / Fordson collectors meets. They uses model a tractor conversions also. Problem was they did not hold up for any other use than snow or marsh use.

Same thing happened here in my village. We had an "inventor",
That built  a paddle Wheel and pontons on a small motorcycle.
All Went fine when he idled out from shore, About 30 yards out
in the river he gave it more throtle  and it raised the front end and sunk.
And then he built paddles for his feets like scubadivers have but from Wood
and with a higne in the midle so he just had to move the feets back and forth.
They pinched his feets so much, that he almost drowned beacuse he could not
swim beacuse of the pain
And he used to sit in the midle of his potato field with a bucket on his head
to collect beams from space.....He said theres where his ideas came from
and that was in the 30s   Way Before any satelites or satelite dishes :o :o

I guess he had found a way to tune in Discovery chanel 50- 60 years Before
the started ;D ;D ;D ;D

Sure could have used them here in Ohio this year ::)

I realize they would only be practical in the northern climates (like upper Canada or Alaska....or perhaps the North and South Poles :)), but you have to admit....that thing is pretty impressive in its abilities! I've been to a lot of old tractor shows, but never a Ford/Fordson specific meet, and have never seen one. It would be cool to see a conversion just once.

Yeah, not the brightest idea there. I'm no mechanical engineer, but it looked doomed to failure as soon as I saw it. Center of gravity is WAY to high.
