rocker shaft side holder collar
« on: October 09, 2011, 02:42:09 PM »
I spotted this collar on my friends 426 hemi, that holds the rocker shafts to the side instead of springs or spacers.
It seems to me this would make setting up rocker shaft side to side alignment much faster when assembly/disassembly.
The down side would be if the ring came loose, but this engine has seen the high side of 7000 rpm's many times with no problems.
What do you guys think?

You know I've seen those somewhere else one time and was thinking the same thing. Sure would make things easy vs using the spacers. Where did he get them from? Pretty slick idea.

These were already on the engine, but he said you could get them on ebay. I'm not sure whether they would be available for an FE.

I think that this would be a good solution for an FE also, but probably it would have to be a purpose built part, since the FE rockershaft diameter isn't any standard size (except for an FE rockershaft  ;D)  Give the preponderance of sleeves and springs for this purpose in FE history, I'm not sure that any manufacturer would want to make a part like this.  The sleeves work fine, after all...

I would feel much better with solid spacers in there. Not for me.
