New 427 Cobra
« on: September 22, 2025, 11:40:06 AM »
This is a brand-new, not a kit, hand-built, very accurate handmade aluminum bodied 427 Cobra, debuted at the Museum yesterday- rolling piece of art right there. Accurate Medium Riser/ Sideoiler too. Gawd, I love my job...

Gene, it's a beauty for sure! My favorite is the street car. This checks all the boxes and then some!!

If it's aluminum bodied, Kirkham or Shelby.

If it's aluminum bodied, Kirkham or Shelby.

Negative- hand-fabricated chassis and body, second one he's done from scratch, and VERY accurate. Y'all come visit, Open Days once a month, and other special events- I am "The Engine Room Guy". Original cars in there that I watched race at Watkins Glen in the 60's. We were just open all week during the Pebble Beach show, and SAAC had an event at Sears Point the same weekend. We moved all the cars out of the main room on Friday morning and set up for dinner for 350 in the room, broke it all down that night and brought all the cars back in Saturday morning- I personally wiped every car down as they came in. BTW Brent, I walked one of the Kirkhams thru the Engine Room on Friday. Peter Brock, Aaron Shelby and Tony Hunt are regular special guests, and Friday brought out Rick Kopec and Lynn Park and a very rare gathering of the genuine FIA race 289 Cobras, several in original paint. The second Dragonsnake, Dan Gurney's "Rabbit", and two of the movie cars from Ford v Ferrari that Tony Hunt drove. A whole row of early GT-350s, including the first R-Model. Did I mention that I love my job?

Next time I visit my relatives in the bay area I need to plan a day to do a car tour. I owe Joe at Denbeste a visit, I think they are within a reasonable driving distance.

Whoa
Hiding in plain sight just in LA area (look them up):
-Andy Palmer Coachworks, Sun Valley;
-Steve Hogue Enterprises, Torrance;
-Drew Serb, Martinez-north; and
-McCluskey Ltd, Torrance

All of these are either McCluskey alumni or have a McCluskey buck and are accurate.
These shops can either 'panel-beat/english wheel' a correct car or take a Kirkham and re-contour the front clip to AC form-not uncommon.
Serb does not build retail, but does quietly generate cars when it wants (McCluskey buck).

Yes, but:
Drew Serb bought the name Cobra Performance from Gordon Gimbel upon his retirement. He has many Cobra related concerns.  Serb also owns/runs the Museum which has public access and cars to be seen.
His other holdings do not have retail storefronts, nor are they at the Museum, although he does sell selected parts via a webpage. They have the character of a personal private avocation on private property. He maintains a skilled staff to do most anything at his direction when called upon.

Dang, Gene, that looks like a dream job. That's an impressive array of cars. That would be a great place to visit...if it weren't 2400 miles away.
