I should mention that the engine was of course a 351 Windsor block with 2V Cleveland heads. We started with the closed chamber Australian 2V heads, but they got banned because they didn't have a USA casting number. But they were still as much of a Ford head as the American version.
We built a 408 cubic inch stroker using a Ford 400 crank with aftermarket rods. Pretty unique at the time as there were no available 400 cubic inch stroker kits commercially available for the Windsor yet.
Also, you heard the crowd cheer for Tim as he passed the lead car of Rusty Olson. There was quite the rivalry between the two guys. Rusty's dad was the track owner at the time and Rusty saw a lot of, I guess maybe favoritism, from the track officials as far as adhering strictly to the rules, and the fans knew that. We got torn down so many times. They just couldn't believe a Ford could run that good and not be cheating. lol
That was a really fun time in my life. Being out there with the only Ford and kicking all the Chevy's butts.
