FERR - Brunson Performance Recap
« on: April 28, 2025, 10:48:52 PM »
I haven't seen much posted about the FE Race & Reunion on here. We wanted to say thank you to everyone who stopped by and chatted with us this weekend! It was certainly nerve racking to show up with brand new FE products that hadn't been outside of our shop yet and bring them straight into a gathering of FE enthusiasts. We left there even more motivated. The FE community is exceptional.

One of my favorite stories of the event.... We had made a "wanted" sign, looking for an air cleaner lid for our '60 Starliner project. Within about an hour of getting set up, Jack O'Brian came over and said "hey, I think that lid you're looking for is over here". Turns out the guy in the swap meet spot RIGHT NEXT TO US had one on his trailer. We were so focused on setting up that we hadn't noticed it. I have been searching for that lid for close to 5 years and it was right there.

Now that we have head castings finalized and being produced I will be working on updating our website with new info and detailed photos. Heads will be available soon. We have a 496" short block sitting in the shop waiting for a set of our medium riser heads, so that dyno test will be right around the corner. We also have a 505" Genesis block that's fully prepped, but not as far along. The current plan is to put our tunnelport heads on that block and run it on the dyno.

Here are some photos I took at the event:

It Was A Sucessful Event, And I'm Glad I Got A Chance To Meet You And View The Products You Are Making Available To The FE Community. As You Soon Found Out, It Is A Brotherhood, And There Are No Strangers. I Wish You Luck With Your Line Of Cylinder Heads. I Was Especially Impressed With The Tunnel Port Heads. A Lot Of Potential There! Keep Up The Good Work, And Will See You Next Year!

Glad everyone had a good time maybe next year I can go. Mike hope your first outing was a success and it’s good to get your stuff out there for everyone to see.  The air cleaner lid story is crazy. I had the same story at the reunion last year. I had my throttle shaft linkage break in the semis and couldn’t figure out how to get it modified for the finals. While me and a group of my buddies were racking our heads my daughter ran over to the swap meet guys and found the exact linkage which has been on my car for15 years. 5 bucks saved the day and won the finals in the bird race. Weird how things happen. I’m sure we will talk.

Man, time just flies by way too fast on these events. I'm glad you ran over to say Hi, Mike. Unfortunately, it seemed every time I went to mosey up front to the booths on Saturday, they would start calling cars to the lanes, or people would stop to chat about the car and other stuff. I was bummed I didn't make it to your booth to check out your new heads.

Joe, it was an interesting day. Had 2 test runs on a 46* track in the morning. Both times I was ice skating the first 100', so not the best start to the day. It was a shot in the dark on my dial-in. After the track warmed up a bit and First Round was called, I lowered my launch RPM in the hopes of getting it to hook better, literally having no idea what to dial in at. I got lucky and got the car to hook and won my first 2 rounds, making it to the Quarter Finals, where I red lit by .005. UGH! 5 thousandths of a second...lol I didn't realize till watching some in car video that I took, that the car continued to roll after I lit the 2nd bulb, and went in deep. I should have used my line lok to stage it, but I didn't. I think I would have been good if I hadn't staged so deep.

Didn't much care though, I had a blast. The car was running good: ran it's best speed at 120 several times, got my best 60', and best reaction at .100 (till the red light), so it was all good for me. I couldn't match my best ET at 11.51, but managed a 11.590 on a 11.58 dial, so I was pretty happy with my progress in gaining experience.

Here's a video of my 2nd round run. A slight miss before my launch because I forgot to clear the engine, and you can hear it start to load up a bit before the 2nd bulb. Still trying to get my routine down....

Sounds mean. I’m glad you had a good day. And it’s been a while since you have been out right. You must be pretty close to that track right.

Yes, it's been 5 1/2 years. Way too long. The track is just 1:45 from me, compared to 9 hours, so a HUGE savings in fuel.

Was good to see you back out again.  That engine has some years, miles, and passes on it and still running strong.

It was good to see you again, Barry. I had to check, and I was off a bit on the runs count: 10 years, probably 5000 street miles, but about 50 runs. I think it's earned a check-up.
