66 comet front disc brakes

im looking for a front disc brake setup for a 66 comet that will work with my stock spindles.i need recommendation and part number.thanks in advance
1966 comet caliente 428 4 speed owned since 1983                                                 1973 f250 ranger xlt 360 4 speed papaw bought new

Not the same model, but I have a Wilwood front disc brake kit on my 59, that retains the factory drum brake spindles, gotta think that they would offer a similar kit for a much more popular application. The Wilwood kit has brackets that mount their 4 piston aluminum calipers to the original spindles, so no concerns about suspension or steering geometry issues.

I used their kit on the front of my Fairlane. One thing to pay attention to is the use of wheel spacers is indicated for some rims.

That Wilwood disc brake kit worked for me I have it on my 67 comet .At one time I had a mustang II master cylinder on it I replaced that with the Wilwood master cylinder .I had a better pedal and brakes with their master cyl.

manofmerc, do you recall what the bore sizes of your Mustang 11 master cylinder was, and what the Wilwood master is? And is your Wilwood master cylinder the plastic and aluminum MoPar style, or their own billet unit? I am currently using a manual brake master cylinder on my 59, that was originally for a Maverick, it works, but does take quite a bit of pedal effort. I seem to recall the bore on the Maverick master is 15/16".

Rory, I run their oval shaped master. Have tried both 7/8” & 15/16” bores. Wilwood calipers on all corners. Car does not stop great. ( have to use second return road option at the track). No booster

I have the same set up on the Mustang (Shelby) stocker. I run vented street rotors on the front drag race rotors on the back. No booster 15/16” mc and I make the first turn out real easily at Bakersfield. Car stops real well it weighs 3,275 running about 128 in the quarter. Maybe your track has a short first turn or your car is heavier? I ran a ‘67 3,100lb Mustang coupe with 4 wheel drum brakes and at around the same speed I couldn’t make the first turn outs. Getting it slowed down was an eye opener 😬

You need to check the pedal ratio. It can make a big difference on how much effort it takes to stop.

Pedal ratio is 6/1. According to Wilwood that is within acceptable range. Car is 3650 with driver and goes 127 in QTR. I have not tried standing on the brakes. I hit em gradually, keep pressure and then back off a little and repeat. I have their bias valve. I have been reluctant to hit the brakes hard and keep pressure. Worried I would overheat them.
Perhaps I should try pushing hard and not letting up?

Fryedaddy and 6667fan, I don’t know if 6667fan uses the thin drag race rotor on the front of his car but at the weights we’re running I would recommend using the vented rotors on the front. I would be a little worried about heat warping a thin rotor and the stopping procedure described by 6667fan is probably best. The thin drag fronts are better suited for light weight race cars.

That mustang II was 7/8 bore the wilwood was their std. plastic aluminum master cylinder .I believe it is a Mopar unit actually .There was a noticeable brake improvement .BUT the pushrod that comes with the MC didnt work for me so I had to buy their pushrod kit also . And I plumbed in those little valves that send some pressure to the brakes ( cant remember the name now) along with a wilwood proportional valve .Rory contact me I have an extra mc it would be cheap just call 678 603 8400 .Doug
