SOHC Rocker Arm Videos
« on: October 29, 2024, 02:54:27 PM »
At the moment I'm getting ready to start manufacturing another batch of SOHC rocker arms.  Before I started building them this time I wanted to write up a document explaining what I've found about these rockers after almost 20 years running these engines, including between 15,000 and 20,000 street miles and nearly 100 passes down the drag strip.  My experiences have steered the design process on my own version of the SOHC rockers.

Along the way I've spent a lot of time talking to my friend Bill Conley, who is also keenly interested in these engines.  Several years ago Bill took the time and effort to develop a spintron just for testing the SOHC valve train; certainly a monumental undertaking.  His spintron was fitted with a camera that could take videos of a rocker arm and valve spring at high engine speeds. I got his permission to link to his videos in my document, but after watching them again I couldn't resist posting a couple of them here.  They are just too cool!  Links are below.  Also, anyone who might be interested in my SOHC rockers, there is a post in the Vendor Classified section with some pictures, and also a link to the document I wrote up about them.

I'm surprised at how much the adjustable rocker pushed the valve tip sideways. It highlights the value of roller rockers.

Professor Brown, what will be the rocker ratio?
