Hopefully getting on a chassis dyno this weekend, not sure if I’m the driver or the Dyno guys will do it, but any tips?
I seem to recall someone said put it in second gear hold , but I still think it is going to shift on the governor, so unsure.
All C6 from 1967 - up, have "manual 2nd" and will NOT shift to 3rd, if the shift lever is kept in "2".
Even from a dead stop, if the shifter is in "2" the trans is in 2nd gear.
Starts out in 2nd and stays in 2nd.
I believe this may be incorrect.
1966 was the fisrt year for the C6 and it had a single year different valve body and shift pattern, often refered to as the "green dot" transmission.
Park, Reverse, Neutral, 2 (2nd, 3rd only), Drive (1st, 2nd, 3rd) Low (1st only)
1967 saw a change in the valve body and shift pattern to what we pretty much know as the automatic standard of: Park, Reverse, Neutral, Drive (1st,2nd,3rd gears) 2 (2nd,3rd gears only) 1/low (1st gear only)
Some people refer to the 2 (2nd and 3rd gears only as the "Snow" gear)
There was no 2nd gear only selection for a C6.
Afraid not... and yes there was a 2nd gear only on the C6. (and others)
ALL C6, C4 and FMX Ford 3 spd automatics from
1967 up, have "manual 2nd gear".
This feature is sometimes called "Select Shift" by Ford.
The "2" position is second gear ONLY.
As I said, it starts in "2" and stays in "2".
GM and Mopar if selecting the "2" position on their common 3spd automatics of the day,
both will start out in 1st and shift to 2nd,
and they will make an "emergency shift" to 3rd if you get going fast enough.
Yes, 1966 the first year of the C6 most cars had/have the "Green Dot" as you describe.
There was an
option in 1966 for a "Select Shift" or "Sport Shift" C6 (and maybe C4, not sure...never seen one) P-R-N-D-2-1 NO Green Dot.
Fairlane GTA models and I think some 7 Litre Galaxies had this as an option.
BTW I’ve only been rebuilding these things for approx 45 years so I don’t really know anything….😏
