crank damper spacer issue
« on: July 31, 2024, 11:50:00 AM »
I bought a new crank damper spacer and when I test fit it, it gets stuck on the key.  I could probably tap in on with a little force, but it would be tough to remove then.  The key itself is wedged in the crank pretty good.  Should I try to file the key a little until the spacer slides on better?

I would tap it on there.  Removing it isn't hard, just put a 2" muffler clamp on the spacer, hook a puller to that and it will pull right off.

File the spacer slot a little instead of the key.

Just curious, if this a factory Ford crankshaft, or an aftermarket crank? A buddy built a FE stroker a while back, not sure if it was a Scat or Eagle kit, but instead of using the OE Ford style crank keys, they had Chevy keys, and when he had to tap the spacer on, it caused the sleeve to crack, (he was not aware of it cracking at the time), and when he started driving the car, it had a timing cover area oil leak, which was caused by the crack. Something to check into, if it is an aftermarket crank, never seen that with a Ford crank.
