I'm signed up for Sick 66
« on: March 02, 2024, 01:02:07 PM »
Well I'm in. I signed up for Sick 66. It is an epic 9 day drag-n-drive event starting at Ozark Raceway near Springfield Mo. and ending in Albuquerque NM following Route 66. Instead of an event that starts and begins at the same track, this is a one way event so it's going to be over 2000 miles for me.
So I am going to be cruising Route 66 in my '66 this year... if all goes well. :)

That sounds like an awesome adventure (I'm envious), and what better way to experience it than in a cool car--that Galaxie is sweeeeet!

It reminds me of the  LTD I had in the early 80's. Same color. I liked driving that car. But family needs made a sale the thing to do. The old Courier PU got so much better mileage. But no where as nice to drive.

I had one of those Couriers too. Bought it new in '78. They had a terrible heater. :)

That convoluted road up to Albuquerque Dragway has to be the most round-about access to a dragstrip ever.  Have not been on the track, it was closed when I checked out the route.  Which is also nuts because there's no good place to turn around at the gate.  Big drop off on the north side of the road ready to take you out LOL.  Sounds like a fun trip!

Man that sounds like a fun race to be on the "Sick Ward". I don't know if I'll be able to do it this year because it's looking like I might be headed to Tulsa for work for a while..... BUT that means I could stop by the Tulsa race day.

Starting and stopping in 2 different states sounds like a real PITA for anybody trailering their car to the event, or are they trying to discourage that?

I'm not sure, lol. They did one last year like that. I am for sure not trailering my car.  There have been questions already if it would be ok for someone to follow along with their tow rig for pickup in Albuquerque. Although quite a few heavy hitters show up I think it is more about the drive on this event. There are no classes and it is all 1/8th mile.

I'm in for Sick 66 as well. Some of us are planning to start at the beginning of Route 66 in Chicago a couple days before the event, and then after racing at 6 tracks, finish the route to the Santa Monica pier. I'm REALLY looking forward to that adventure.  See you there, Alan.

I do have a Ford 9" in my car, so I think I am clear to post this.  ;D

Joel, as the original 'Trunk Monkey', I'm sure you're always welcome here. You have seniority.
