“Autolite” AGM battery
« on: January 28, 2024, 02:46:07 PM »
Is anyone using an AGM Autolite battery in their Galaxie or other classic?

What are the downsides beyond the ridiculous cost?

Does anyone have an alternative that looks right?

Even cheap batteries have gotten expensive these past three years.  You have to look at the cost over time.  I use Optima Red Tops and they last around 12 years in my cars.  The conventional batteries were good for five or six.  And you also have to look at the power over time.  So they last longer and stay stronger over time.  If you look only at the cost at the moment of purchase, you'll just end up in tears.

I have gone to Walmart for all of my lead-acid batteries - their $140 24F EverStart Maxx has a free replacement 3 year warranty:

Much appreciated.

Is there any type of non standard maintenance that you perform or do you just treat it as you would any battery?

If the vehicle doesn't see regular use, keep it on a battery tender.

You can probably use this case to house a regular battery. Then it would be cheaper to look period correct.

I had one of the agm Autolite batteries.
Lasted 10 months.
And yes, I had an optima smart charger on it.

I just buy a Duralast Gold every 6-7 years now.

I talked with these guys at PRI. He was hoping to have these back in stock in the March timeframe. This will fit in the factory battery holder on a 60-64 galaxie.

I get my AGMs at Sams - decent warranty.  The AGM in the Falcon was in the dragster and has been abused with boost between rounds via conventional charger, etc- no issues in 4 years.
