Ohio George passes away

My wife pointed this out to me. Sad to see another legend pass away. He was a great figure at the Reunions and always had great stories. I'm glad I had the opportunity to have him sign my original Ohio George models.

George was a great guy, and a fountain of knowledge about the SOHC and NHRA racing in the 60s and 70s.  The reunion won't be the same without him.  RIP, Ohio George.

I had a couple good chats with George, at the FE Réunion. Great stories, a really smart, innovative racer, that managed too keep the NHRA, tech inspectors, and rule makers, busy, trying too figure out what Ohio George, was going to do next. RIP Ohio George, and thanks!

One of my early heroes. I followed from the Malco gasser days.
Saw him at several of the tracks in the 60's and 70's but never got to meet him as we were racing to and I didn't have the time to wait in the long lines of people.
If i remember right all the top gasser car's in that time period came f4om Ohio.

I was proud to have had the chances to talk to him many times over the past several years at PRI and the FERR. 
Really cool guy and still had a very sharp racer mind - discussed new parts and ideas every time.
It hurts to see these legends go - a reminder to cherish every moment they can share.

     really missing the good old guys and days- not only George and his work with the cammer but the twin turboed 429 malco gasser-- way ahead of the times along with Ak miller turboed propane Ford power   they built fast record holding turbo stuff way ahead of the times    great guys to visit with and talk to!!!  R.I.P.     john -oldiron-

It was always fun going to the shop and ordering parts back in the 80's , he had a guy working the parts department named Joe Clepaus (sp?) that I would get 4 speed transmission parts (pre cut synchronizers) from Joe and buy speed parts from George . I was there one time and they were receiving a truck load of those Buick Indy lite engines what seemed like 25 engines and George had this one guy working and all he did all day long was load and unload along with move those Indy motors around to different machines they were using , he also had a 66 Nova with a SBC cross ram that George built for him that was a candy apple red beauty . Joe ended up getting cancer and dying at a fairly young age 45-ish and just seemed like it was hard getting out there when the mail order stuff started getting popular like Jegs (formerly Buckeye Sales) PAW and Summitt

George would travel to the races with those Indy Lights engines. I am sure I was the only person in the huge 1990's Vancouver Molson Indy crowd who knew we were in the presence of greatness... as great as Mario Andretti and Nigel Mansell. I got to chat with him there for quite a while and then across the table at dinner at the FERR in 2018. What a great man and racing legend. RIP George.
