SBF rear main seal suggestion

Any recommendation on which two piece rear main seal to use for race application? Vehicle is a 69 Mustang, B302 vintage road race car using the Ford D1ZE block. The Fel-pro BS30136 is not recommended for race application. I am familiar with the Fel-Pro 2901 high vacuum seal but the ones produced now are a little "longer" than the tan ones of the past (which is a concern). The other choice that I have found is the national 5108 but I don't know anyone that has used it. Any other choices available?

Truth stands on its own merit.

I always use a razor blade to cut the ends of the seal if necessary to clean off any molding blobs and square up the seal ends. Offset them about 3/8" and use just a dab of silicone on the ends, and it should seal properly. Coat the seal edges with either grease or assembly lube, and make sure the crankshaft has a coating of engine oil on the surface where the seal goes. Always do all your bearing fitment and trial fitting of the crankshaft first. Joe-JDC

Which seal do you use, Joe? The 2901, which is suggested for racing engines, now has .080" of crush at each end which seems like a bit too much.
Thanks,
Dennis

I run into that a lot. I prefer the SCE rear main seals for SBFs.
However, you can put the seal in without the crank, torque the cap down and if the seal ID is round, I’d be good with it. I stagger my seals.

It is a running engine, just replacing the seal. I will order the SCE seal and use that. Thanks

I don't do as many SBFs as Brent, but in my last foray LOL only the SCE fit properly. Won't even try Felpro on the next one
