Olds power swapped for FE

Check this out. It made the car 1000% more valuable in my opinion. The Shelby Series 1 cars were originally powered by a 4.0L Oldsmobile engine......not sure why they did that? It's now a 750hp stack injected FE.

Back then the Olds Aurora, Cadillac Northstar, and Corvette ZR1 LT-5 engines were pretty much the state of the art V-8's.

I think Mr. Shelby used the Olds motor because they paid him. Along with other things Mr. Shelby was very good at making money and he took it from whomever was handing it out.

I had to comment on this. The Olds v8 had been designed with Jim Fueling as had the 4 cylinder. The 4 cylinder was a real problem, the v8 was better. I was listening to a discussion of Mr Fuelings design, and he was questioned about the problems Olds was having. Jim answered "I designed the engine and Olds engineers F%$ked it up." It was the last "hurrah" for Oldsmobile.

Yes the Quad 4 was really hyped up when it emerged.  When I was at Ford we made a deal with GM to get our hands on one.  (I think we gave them a 4.6L 4-valve Modular in exchange.  Stuff like this was pretty common back in the day...)

I was doing a stint at the Dyno building when they tested it.  Output was nothing special for its size, and it had pretty lousy NVH.  I was expecting much better, especially given that gem of an Acura Integra engine we had previously tested.

How in heck do you work on that or get the engine in or out of there? Has it been moved a foot rearward or is that actually where the Olds engine sat?

What i cant understand is why GM dont used the Opel 4 cyl engine
that was already in production. Better engine more power and better fueleconomy

Why would you need to work on an FE?
