my 66 428 crank used 1 stick to balance it for a 390 flywheel.

The pistons are .013 in the hole with a 390 crank, I will measure carefully but looks like .087 will get get me zero with the 428 crank
With no shaving, the piston top is around .350 from the top ring

If the block is square, you can go .010 proud with an 8554 gasket. Saves you a little cutting and depending on deck height and heads sometimes helps the intake line up a smidge better

You can also use the FT Felpro 9061 PT head gasket, it's .061 compressed.
But, when you cut the piston top, it will decrease the P to V clearance by that much so, be sure to check that out, you may have to have the valve pockets re-cut, too.
